Huub Schilte and Jacqueline Portielje: Collaborative Artists in Rotterdam - Biography, Artistic Process, and Shared Vision

Huub Schilte and Jacqueline Portielje work and live together in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Both are art educated with different orientations. Schilte is designer and Portielje is a graduate artist. From the very beginning, they have inspired each other and participated in each other's work. Creating artwork together became a rule rather than an exception. That's why they have been promoting their work under the name Schilte & Portielje since 1997. They prefer to work without a pre-defined plan or subject. They both select fragments of images from a digitized library they have built over the years. As artists, Schilte & Portielje feels the challenge of reflecting visually according to their own perception of a complex world. Then it is up to the viewer to interpret their results.
