ARTWORK FROM THE EXHIBITON
Women by Women
This fall, THE PHOTOGALLERY invites you to an inspiring exhibition featuring works exclusively by female photographers. The exhibition highlights the unique power and expressiveness of the feminine perspective, showcasing a wide range of styles, techniques, and expressions. Each piece tells its own story, conveying a personal vision of the world.
A woman’s lens has the ability to see and feel on a deeper level. Their photographs often carry a strong emotional resonance, whether it be sorrow, joy, anger, or love. They are unafraid to reveal the intimate and personal, letting their own emotions guide the composition and subject matter.
Women have a strong intuition that frequently leads them to be in the right place at the right time. They trust their instincts and are willing to take risks, resulting in unique and unexpected images. They aren’t afraid to break conventions and experiment with new techniques and forms of expression.
Their photographs may not always be objective, but this is precisely what makes them so captivating. They portray reality through a personal filter, adding an extra layer of depth and complexity to the images.
Photographing from a female perspective is not about excluding men. It’s about creating a more inclusive and equal world of photography where everyone has the opportunity to express themselves in their own way. It’s about showcasing the diversity of human experiences and giving a voice to all, regardless of gender.
Featuring works from artists such as Neeltje de Vries, Ava Valsten, Sylvie Blum, Lara Zankoul, Pamela Hanné, Sofia F. Stenström, and others.

El Viaje Vertical by
PATRICIO REIG
MARS 28 - NOVEMBER 3
This summer Patricio Reig will take you on a journey in the name of art. Let his stunning work bring you inside his creative world in the beautiful surroundings of Norrviken.
To travel can be an inner journey or an outer one. It changes us and our perspective. Art is a journey without return that fills our soul and defines our style. Photography is a representation of truth and a way to leave a mark. Art never ends and always wants to investigate. Nothing is said and nothing seems to indicate that a horizon is visible. It is a blind journey, but full of light at the same time. The searcher need food for their fantasy, an impulse to his desires and a leitmotif to guide them.
The Argentinian born artist/photographer/poet Patricio Reig is a multifaceted artist who combines diverse technical resources to treat photography not only as a testimonial graphic element, but also as an object, or almost as a spectral presence, which gives the viewer the opportunity to find the nuances that turn the image into a living reflection. His work transpires beyond the photographic paper where it has been trapped, and stimulates the effect of memory and nostalgia, this time intimately related to our most immediate present. He prints and sets his images on special oriental paper, folded over and over, and finally dipped in a bath of coffee and sodium thiosulfate. He has found the result intriguing ever since his very first experiments: fortuitous coffee stains become scars that denote each photograph, and consequently every story they tell. As he himself says: ”A portrait is not the recording of a single identity, but rather the layering of many elements. For this reason, the image may be fragmented, pieced back together, or even folded over, and yet it never loses its essence.”
Patricio Reig (San Juan, Argentina, 1959). After earning a PhD in Architecture in Barcelona, he began studying photography independently. His career has unfolded between Barcelona, Buenos Aires, and Milan, where he now lives and works. He has always been interested in experimenting with alternative photographic processes. His works are included in several public and private collections in America, Europe, and Asia.

Blending art, fashion, and commercial photography, he has created some of the most iconic images ever seen. From portraits of Alfred Hitchcock, Kate Moss, and Steve Jobs, to landscape shots from Las Vegas and still lifes of artifacts from King Tutankhamun’s tomb. Watson’s versatility and diversity in his work are unmatched. His striking photographs and superb handmade prints are displayed in galleries and museums worldwide. The photo industry’s bible, Photo District News, named Albert one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, alongside Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, among others.

PIECES FROM THE EXHIBITION
Neeltje de Vries
NEELTJE DE VRIES
The PhotoGallery is proud to present an extraordinary exhibition of photography by Neeltje de Vries at Lydmar Hotel in Stockholm.
De Vries is an Amsterdam-based photographer whose work is characterized by timeless narratives of women from the present, past, and future. Her photographs resemble film stills where nudity is a functional artistic choice that accentuates not only purity and a connection with nature but also literally liberates, and offers a unique perspective on what it means to be a woman, free from expectations, prejudices, roles, and stereotypes.
The exhibition runs from April 19 to September 8.
De Vries has a background in graphic design, which is clearly reflected in her aesthetic. Her photographs are characterized by geometric shapes and precise cropping. She strives to create balance in her images and often experiments with lines, shapes, and frames to highlight the unique character of her models.
"I take most pictures when I'm not photographing. It's in the subconscious. The women in my photographs represent a part of myself," says De Vries.
By breaking with traditional gender roles and stereotypes, de Vries challenges the male gaze and highlights the complexity and diversity of women. Her work offers a thought-provoking and inspiring insight into what it means to be a free and independent woman in the modern world.
We hope you will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition and experience Neeltje De Vries's work for yourself.

Tracing The Traceless
Tracing The Traceless
JOAKIM ENEROTH
Joakim Eneroth is an internationally established visual artist represented with photographic artworks in museums such as the Tate Modern in London and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York. His images have an unfathomable ability to lift the viewer time and time again to yet another transformative perspective on reality.
In this summer's exhibition Tracing the Traceless, show some of his most desirable and noticed photographic artworks, including the iconic red houses from Swedish Red and the unique three-dimensional pools from Whispering Void.
Joakim Eneroth's photographs penetrate beneath the conscious layers of our perceptions and show us a place where thoughts and concepts have ceased. A stillness, which is suppressed by the title of his picture series. The ethereal zero point included in the summer exhibition. We also get to see works from his most recent image series, Blinded by the Known, where Eneroth explores even more deeply the human mind's ability to create psychological projections.
Tracing the Traceless is the sublime exploration of dimensionless consciousness. With his beautiful and mysterious images, Eneroth gently guides us into the silent, still and wordless existence that lies in the background of all experiences.
STREET
MATS ALFREDSSON
Street photography is discovering and documenting what others usually don´t see. Small human events in the public space, which normally go unnoticed, but in the frozen moment leaving traces. Mats passion for this classic genre is based on a genuine interest in people of all ages and social classes. Hidden behind his photos are miles of walking, hours of waiting at interesting places, traveling by train, tram and metro and the odd bar hanging. The basic rule is to never arrange, never talk to anyone he shoot in advance and never with people he know or have met before. It is an exciting journey of the unexpected and rapidly changing moment is the reward.
JOHAN BRINK
Johan Brink has developed his eye via various workshops, with the highly regarded photographer Mary Ellen Mark amongst others. Brink is fascinated by the ever changing city life, captured in the moment. Things that have been misplaced by accident, that no one wants, or details which get their beauty by carelessness, becoming even more beautiful as the sun and the shadows plays in collaboration. Brink has exhibited at the Gothenburg Auction House, in Kungsbacka Art Hall, at Hjertstedska Villan 2021, and at the Röhsska Museum of Design and Craft. Brink has also curated several exhibitions, for instance at Fotografiska in 2014.
RALPH NYKVIST
Photographer Ralph Nykvist's images are characterized by his special ability to see and capture the unintentionally comic in everyday life. He usually finds the motifs on his walks in cities, both at home and on trips to Paris, London, Munich and New York, among others. What the pictures have in common, regardless of where they were taken, is that they convey a strong curiosity about the world and how it appears viewed and depicted through the camera lens.
BIRGITTA NILSSON
Birgitta Nilsson is more or less self-taught. As a work of mourning and a tribute to a daughter who never got the chance to realize her dream of becoming a photographer. Birgitta bought her first camera in 2014 and took two short photography courses, the first in Norrköping and the second at Fridhem Folkhögskola in Svalöv. The latter with a focus on nature photography.
She describes herself as a free spirit who moved to London at the age of 17 to work as an au pair. It wasn't long before she was offered a job as a photo model. Skeptical, she entered the industry which led to a 15-year career in metropolises such as London, Barcelona, Milan and Berlin.
LES SAPEURS
LES SAPEURS BY PER-ANDERS PETTERSSON
“Society of Ambianceurs and Elegant People”
Sape is a unique subculture within the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project was photographed by Per-Anders Pettersson in 2012-2019.
Being a Sapeur is more than a way to dress, more than a hobby and more than a way to earn money and gain respect. It is a prestigious brotherhood with its own moral and social codes and ultimately a way of life and survival. Dressing up and parading in the streets makes them feel important, which allows them to forget their daily struggle in a chaotic Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sapeurs try to imitate an exclusive lifestyle that they imagine exists in Europe. Although they are often treated as local celebrities, it is in the poorest neighborhoods that they spend their entire lives, and most will probably never visit cities like Paris or Brussels, the capitals of the countries that colonized the two Congos. Rival Sapeur groups compete for attention and visibility on the streets, and they often appear at major events and on television and radio programs.
Per-Anders Pettersson (born in Borås, Sweden in 1967) is a photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. During his 30-year long career, Pettersson has covered a wide range of international news events, including the first Gulf War, democracy in South Africa starting with the election campaign in 1994, as well as conflicts in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Haiti. He has worked in over thirty-five African countries, covering stories on hunger in Ethiopia, civil wars in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Botswana and South Africa. Mr. Pettersson has worked in over one hundred countries on assignment for clients worldwide. His pictures have won praise and awards from, among others, World Press Photo, PDN, POY, NPPA, CARE, CHIPP, Unicef Photo of the Year, American Photography and Commarts. He has exhibited several times at Visa pour l’Image Perpignan, as well as at other festivals and galleries, such as Somerset House in London. In September 2013, his first book was published, Rainbow Transit, a look at democracy in South Africa. African Catwalk, a look at the fashion industry in Africa, was published in 2016.

DAVID BAILEY
DAVID BAILEY
DAVID BAILEY
The PhotoGallery presents iconic photographs by David Bailey.
This year's summer exhibition at The PhotoGallery will show David Bailey's most iconic photos from his long career as a photographer over five decades. Artwork from "Swinging London" with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie and more.
It is over 20 years since London-based photographer David Bailey exhibited his fine art photography in Sweden - then at the Moderna Museet. Now it's finally time again and he has chosen The PhotoGallery in Halmstad.
David Bailey was born in 1938 and grew up in the East End of London. He began photographing during his military service in the late 50's. In 1959 he got a job as a photo assistant with it British fashion photographer John French. In 1960, he was contracted as a fashion photographer by British Vouge. Throughout the 60's he was like an in house photographer to the indigenous people - "Swinging London". He achieved great success as a photographer and became one of the great celebrities in London during this time. In 1964 he published "Box of Pin-ups" - black and white photographs of 150 famous people where he defined who was most famous in London.
Bailey is still an active photographer. The PhotoGallery will also show three of his latest work where he combines painting and photography.

He loves analog black and white photography and has had a number of acclaimed exhibitions around the world. He has done solo exhibitions include: Liljevalchs Konsthall, Le Frigo, Paris, International Photography Hall of Fame, Oklahoma City and Abecita art museum among other places. Örjan Henriksson works include both fine art and commercial photography. He has studied photography with Arnold Newman and George Tice. In 2015, he was awarded the first Bindefeld scholarship in memory of the Holocaust with his exhibition and work Auschwitz KZ I-II.
Lucas Morten / Objects
Between the interface of functional objects and visual art, lucas morten invites you to an era where contemporary questioning societal thoughts meets the history of brutalism. Being able to interact with art in more than a visual way, also physically and mentally, was out of importance in the handmaking of the objects. A context totally omitted to self-perceived questionings, conversations and thoughts - reflects the objects expression and angles. It is the discrepancy between the anxiety about sharing the visual art and the desire to spread the fundamental message behind the objects that now allows each observer to form or not to form an own perception. With the message of a non-simple and undefined way of being, loaded with mystery, alienation and inconvenience - was this virtual art gallery founded to redefine your philosophy.
Björn Keller / The Ornithologist

FAKETRUTH by Alison Jackson
In cooperation with Crossover. Curator: Anke Degenhard
Alison Jackson is a contemporary BAFTA and multi award winning artist who explores the cult of celebrity – an extraordinary phenomenon created by the media, publicity industries and the public figures themselves. Her work sits squarely in the middle of the current fake news, alternative facts or news debates. Jackson makes convincingly realistic work about celebrities doing things in private using cleverly styled lookalikes. Likeness becomes real and fantasy touches on the believable. She creates scenarios we have all imagined but never seen before.
